Walking Down Ronald Ngala Street

The Githurai Bus Stage at Ronald Ngala Street, Nairobi
It’s a few minutes to 6pm in Nairobi. The last drops of the stormy deluge that has been pounding the city centre from late afternoon can be seen cutting through the tired, receding sun rays.

The three hour downpour has managed to out-stage the early morning scorching sun but seemingly can’t let go until total darkness engulfs the capital.
Down town Ronald Ngala Street, right opposite the post office, is flooded with racing rainwater and restless passengers.

Machakos, A City Sorrounded by Hills

A street in Machakos town
The Roaming Reporter's job involves exploring new places.

On a Saturday afternoon, he sets out for Machakos. The first put off is the fare from Nairobi. Kshs.250 is exorbitant considering that its just an hour's drive from Nairobi.

The road is smooth but the stretch between Athi River and  Kyumvi (pronounced "Chumvi") is a bit scary. Here buses and trailers overtake at blind corners with reckless abandon.

Bid to Avert Festive Season Carnage On Roads

Motorists and other road users have been urged to take extra care during the festive season.
According to the National Road Safety Council, most accidents occur during this period as it involves a lot of travel and alcohol intake.

The Traffic Police Department has also advised Kenyans to stay at home, if possible. It calls on drivers, pedestrians and passengers to strictly observe traffic rules.
Traffic enforcement records show rampant indiscipline and non-compliance with traffic rules by drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and passengers.
